Side by side Tenor Ukulele Kit – 2019 build
My daughter mentioned to me she would like to make a stick-dulcimer together. I asked her would she prefer to make a tenor ukulele from a kit… I am glad she said yes!
For our build we chose two Stew Mac Tenor kits with Spruce tops. They arrived in good condition and both made instruments that sound very good.
Below are some photos from our work together:
I decided I would only use mother of pearl on handmade head-stocks inlay. WE decided to try dying some wood materials for inlaying the head-stock.
Hannah is a wonderful artist, she it took it another step. By embellishing her ukulele with a theme, a BEE motif! Using wax and dye she made it musical art! More to try and learn… from each other.
Both of the ukuleles turned out well. Each said a little about our personality. Mine mostly traditional craftsmanship and function. Hannah’s shows an artist, unafraid to expand her skills.
I enjoyed working together. Hope there may be a time to do it again starting from raw materials. I am blessed!
Maybe we need to have my son take a photo of us with our finished instruments to end this page (?!?)
